The four-track release uses a post on 4chan’s /mu/ board posted as a blueprint. “I keep having this dream where Kanye puts out a new album called The Death of Pablo. It’s just 4 songs, ‘Ultralight Wall,’ ‘Washed Up,’ ‘Father Stretch My Hands pt. 3’ and ‘Fade pt. 2.’ They are all around twenty minutes. It sounds like the originals but just twenty times darker in both lyrics and production also, Fade pt. 2 has 10 minutes of Kanye talking about his innermost fears and what happens when you die after a few minutes of silence”
So no, it’s not an easy listen. But unlike most remix projects, it’s actually worth your time. The Death of Pablo relies heavily on samples, but the original album is just one source in the collage: interviews with Kanye, samples of his speeches at concerts, and more are woven into a bed of audio that’s jumps between soothing ambience and harsh noise. For the entire hour-plus run time, it’s an intriguing listen, which is an accomplishment itself. According to the Bandcamp page, each track was made by a number of different artists, with Nimnohi and Tau-9 spearheading the project.
